Intermediate Structural Steel Detailer - B.I.M. (Building Information Modeling)

(One position available)

Job Type: Full Time Temporary (6 months)

Location: Ottawa, ON

Work hours: 37.5 hours per week

Job description:

Working with the project manager to prepare structural steel & miscellaneous metals shop drawings, order lists, and erection drawings to facilitate the manufacturing and erection process for each element within a structure. Preparing clear, complete, and accurate details from architectural and structural drawings, sketches, notes, and contract drawings. Creating 3D models using building information modeling of various steel structures and coordinate with clients at different stages of projects.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience detailing with Tekla Structures

  • Diploma in Drafting Technology from a recognized educational institution.

  • Proficient with Autodesk AutoCAD software.

  • Working knowledge of steel structures and proficient in reading construction drawings.

  • Accuracy when working with measurements and dimensions.

  • English communication skills both verbal and written.

Steel Struct Detailer
Arch CAD Operator

Structural Engineering Technologist

Location: Ottawa, ON

Work hours: 37.5 hours per week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creating structural drawings (plans, sections and details) for residential, commercial, and industrial structures.

  • Revising drawings based on instructions from engineers and/or clients.

  • Working closely with engineers to produce shop drawings for cold formed steel, wood, siding, solar, and structural steel.

  • Performing site visits to review site conditions and take measurements.

  • Relaying site visit information back to Engineers.

  • Preparing quotes for residential clients.

  • Creating small designs for wood and steel construction.

Qualifications:

  • Engineering Technologist diploma or an equivalent diploma from a Technical School Program.

  • Proficiency using Autodesk AutoCad software.

  • An ability to produce drawings with great attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of building codes (OBC & NBC) and relative field terminology.

  • Able to work with minimal supervision.

  • 1 year drafting experience is an asset.

  • A good understanding of construction drawings.

  • Ability to change tasks throughout the day. Handle various projects at the same time to meet timelines or client’s requests.

Structural Engineer (Junior or E.I.T.)

Work hours: 37.5 hours per week

Job description:

  • Analyze and prepare structural report

  • Read and understand structural drawing

  • Technical ability to perform manual calculations based on Canadian Standards of codes

  • Ability to use design software and drawing tools

  • Travel to job sites for the collection and survey of existing conditions

  • Project sites inspected to follow and monitor progress; ensuring the compliance with the design specifications drawing

  • Be available for site visits and meetings with contractors and clients

  • Perform structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, masonry, timber structures, steel studs and building envelope

  • Ability to sketch structure details and sections;  

  • Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate initiative to take on a task until its completion

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, emphasis on structures

  • Professional Engineer License Required or Engineering Intern (Ontario)

  • Minimum 2 years of structural design experience

  • AutoCAD required

  • Proficiency in one of the following softwares:  – STAAD Pro – S-Frame

  • Highly motivated with interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Communication skills both written and verbal in English; the ability to speak French is an asset

  • Knowledgeable with Canadian Engineering standards and codes

  • Able to incorporate methodical thinking into design, planning and managing projects.

  • Attention to detail and an ability to maintain perspective on entire projects

  • Experience in structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, masonry, timber structures, steel studs and building envelope.
