Structural Steel Detailer - B.I.M. (Building Information Modeling)

Location: Ottawa, ON

Work hours: 37.5 hours per week

Job description:

Working with the project manager to prepare structural steel & miscellaneous metals shop drawings, order lists, and erection drawings to facilitate the manufacturing and erection process for each element within a structure. Preparing clear, complete, and accurate details from architectural and structural drawings, sketches, notes, and contract drawings. Creating 3D models using building information modeling of various steel structures and coordinate with clients at different stages of projects.

Qualifications:

  • Able to read and interpret plans, elevations, sections and details of construction drawings​

  • Graduated from Architectural Technologist or Engineering Technologist program

  • Proficient with CAD software, and a working knowledge of Tekla Structures is an asset.

  • Excellent English communication skills both verbal and written (French communication skills an asset)

Structural Engineering Technologist

Location: Ottawa, ON

Work hours: 37.5 hours per week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with engineers to produce shop drawings for cold formed steel, siding, solar and structural steel.

  • Creating detailed designs of structural drawings for building permit, tender, and construction

  • Performing site visits to review site conditions and take measurements

  • Relaying site visit information back to Engineers

  • Drafting quotes for residential clients

  • Creating structural plans for residential, commercial, and industrial structures.

  • Revising drawings based on instructions from engineers and/or architects.

Qualifications:

  • Engineering Technologist diploma or an equivalent diploma from a Technical School Program.

  • Proficiency using Autodesk AutoCad software.

  • An ability to produce drawings with great attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of building codes & relative field terminology.

  • Able to work with minimal supervision.

  • 1 year drafting experience is an asset

  • A good understanding of construction drawings

Structural Engineer (Junior or E.I.T.)

Job description:

  • Analyze and prepare structural report

  • Read and understand structural drawing

  • Technical ability to perform manual calculations based on Canadian Standards of codes

  • Ability to use design software and drawing tools

  • Travel to job sites for the collection and survey of existing conditions

  • Project sites inspected to follow and monitor progress; ensuring the compliance with the design specifications drawing

  • Be available for site visits and meetings with contractors and clients

  • Perform structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, masonry, timber structures, steel studs and building envelope

  • Ability to sketch structure details and sections;  

  • Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate initiative to take on a task until its completion

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, emphasis on structures

  • Professional Engineer License Required or Engineering Intern (Ontario)

  • Minimum 2 years of structural design experience

  • AutoCAD required

  • Proficiency in one of the following softwares:  – STAAD Pro – S-Frame

  • Highly motivated with interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Communication skills both written and verbal in English; the ability to speak French is an asset

  • Knowledgeable with Canadian Engineering standards and codes

  • Able to incorporate methodical thinking into design, planning and managing projects.

  • Attention to detail and an ability to maintain perspective on entire projects

  • Experience in structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, masonry, timber structures, steel studs and building envelope.
